WATCH: Sho Madjozi triumphs at the 2019 BET Awards

Sho Madjozi triumphed over competition from all over the world to win the fan-voted category of Best New International Act at the 2019 BET Awards, which took place over the weekend and aired Sunday night.

The rapper, singer and songwriter emerged victorious over Teniola Apata from Nigeria, Headie One and Octavian from the UK and France’s Jokair and Nesly.

AKA, who was nominated in the Best International Act category, was beaten by his frequent musical collaborator, Nigeria’s Burna Boy. Mr. Eazi, also from Nigeria, as well as Dave and Giggs from the UK and Aya Nakamura and Dosseh from France were among the other nominees.

The awards ceremony was hosted by Girls Trip star Regina Hall, and took place at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.

Honoring achievements in music, sports, television, movies and more, the star-studded awards saw some of the biggest names in Hollywood walk away with statuettes.
