WATCH: Netflix launches epic trailer for ‘The Witcher’

The high production value and ceaseless action has left most people very impressed.

Netflix has released its first trailer for its series The Witcher, based on the hugely popular books and games and fans are loving it.

Initially, when former Superman actor Henry Cavill was announced as the titular witcher Geralt of Rivia, the reaction was mixed, but the trailer has put paid to the idea that he is not suitable, with many saying now that he is actually an ideal casting.

“[Geralt] has a dichotomy of being very hard on the exterior because that’s how he thinks the world is,” Cavill said at the panel at Comic-con, “but deep, deep down there’s this man who has a belief of what the world can be.”

Fans of the games have been warned that the series may differ in many ways to their treasured open-world adventures, mainly because they are going to be a faithful adaptation of the original fantasy series by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. This means, for example, that Geralt carries one sword and keeps the other stashed away, unlike his PC version.

Of course there is no such thing as a trailer with no controversy these days, and the casting of the red-headed Triss by Harry Potter actress Anna Shaffer has many scratching their heads, but the complaint seems minor given the fact that most people didn’t know how wildly the games differed from the original source material to begin with.

While there is currently no official release date, the first episode is due to go out later this year. Cavill will be joined on the cast by Freya Allan (The War of the WorldsBluebird) as Ciri, and Anya Chalotra (WanderlustThe ABC Murders) as Yennefer.
