Vincent Bones scoops the Idols SA title
Vincent Bones, the 30 year-old worship leader from Pietermaritzburg, has been crowned as the SA Season 10 winner.
Vincent Bones has been a fan favourite from the beginning of the Idols SA competition.
Bones has been a favourite in the talent competition from the minute he set foot on the Idols SA stage. He captured South Africa’s Idols SA audience with his heart-warming story a few months ago.
Having lost his mother to cancer at a very young age, Bones found himself living on the streets of Pretoria with very little hope that he would make something of himself. He would eat from rubbish bins and beg those passing by for food and money.
After two years of living of living on the streets, Bones went to Boys Town in Randfontein, this is when he says his life changed.
“Everything that I am today, I have learned from being in Boys Town,” says Bones. “That place is what saved my life.”
Bones was motivated to win Idols SA by his family and the memory of his late mother. “My mother always wanted the best for me, and I wish she was here to see me sing.”
He received the most of the more than 4.5 million votes that were cast during the last week of the tough singing competition, defeating fellow finalist, the charismatic 24-year-old Nelspruit singer Bongi Silinda.
Accodring to Idols SA, all previous records were shattered this year as the total number of votes this year amounted to over 24 million –236% more than the 7,253,971 received during season 9.
Apart from winning the coveted title, Vincent walks away with a prize package worth in excess of R1 million. But, it is the recording contract with Universal Music Africa that is the real prize and it launch his career as South Africa’s next superstar.
“We have two incredibly talented singers with mature voices who are able to cover a large spectrum of music, and I think that they both have bright careers ahead of them. We look forward to working with Vincent on his album,” Universal Music Managing Director Randall Abrahams said about the Idol X winner and runner-up.
Both Vincent and Bongi are already burning up South Africa’s airwaves with the hit singles that were written especially for them, Vincent’s sultry track “Let Me Love”, and a song called “If I Got You” for Bongi.
