Expresso presenter Katlego Maboe is still on high after meeting, interviewing and vibing with someone he calls his teenage hero, musician Craig David.
David, who is in the country to perform in Cape Town, appeared on Expresso to promote his performance.
Taking to Instagram, Maboe explained why this was a significant moment for him.
“When I was a teenager, my grandparents bought me an alarm-radio that led me to this song by @craigdavid and @theofficialsting – it was a defining moment of my youth. Yesterday that teenage boy met his hero…” he wrote.
He also shared the video on Twitter and David responded to Maboe’s tweet saying “Loved this moment brother”.
Craig David is a British singer and songwriter who rose to fame in 1999.
He has worked with a variety of artists such as Sting, Tinchy Stryder, Big Narstie, Kano and Jay Sean.
David has 20 UK Top 40 singles, and seven UK Top 40 albums, selling over 15 000 000 records worldwide as a solo artist.
He is best known for hits such as Fill Me In, 7 Days, Walking Away and Rise & Fall featuring Sting.
Why is Craig David in South Africa?
Craig David came to South Africa perform at the Grand Arena in GrandWest on Thursday night, December 8, in an event called the TS5 experience.
According to IOL, the TS5 experience saw David combining all of his musical talents as a DJ, MC and singer – playing with a live band – and the tour is named after an apartment David bought at a Miami hotel named Tower Suite 5, which became a venue for the epic house parties he hosted.
To tantalise audiences, he even performed at a private party in Cape Town earlier this week.
Entrepreneur Ian Bredenkamp shared some video footage of the performance.
The Daily Voice reports that his TS5 set combined old-school anthems with the hottest House hits of today.
“I’m quite excited for people to come and see me perform, because TS5 is something that I have been building and nurturing over the last five years,” the singer told the publication ahead of his performance.
“For me, it’s like bringing that full circle, to DJ and to mix tunes together but to also have that 22 years worth of songs.”
