In less than three weeks, audiences will finally be able to watch the highly anticipated sequel to ‘Happiness is a Four Letter Word’ when Netflix’s Happiness Ever After begins streaming worldwide.
Netflix’s Happiness Ever After is the official sequel to the South African drama Happiness Is a Four-letter Word and come 10 November, it will be available to be streamed in 190 countries on the Netflix service.
The film will go live at 10am (South African Standard Time).
Viewers will get to watch besties Zaza (played by Khanyi Mbau) and Princess (played by Renate Stuurman) meet and invite a fabulous new girlfriend into their trio.
“An exciting storyline unfolds as the women make their way through even more interesting life dramas and dilemmas, grappling with relatable issues of relationship stress, parenting, and family tensions,” said Netflix in a statement.
Netflix’s Happiness Ever After will be set in some of the most beautiful and lavish locations around Johannesburg and original cast members such as Richard Lukunku (returning as Leo), Renate Stuurman and Khanyi Mbau will be joined by new faces in the form of Nambitha Ben-Mazwi, Yonda Thomas, Daniel Effiong, Loyiso MacDonald, Xolile Tshabalala and Nandi Nyembe.
The film was written by Ayanda Halimana, directed by Thabang Moleya and produced by Bongiwe Selane, and Netflix believes the creators of the film all embody the fresh differentiated approach to stories from the African continent that they are searching for.
They also believe that this lineup of talent is testament to why the film is being streamed to their 214 million subscribers.
“From belly laughs to moments that hit you in the feels and every ‘shine-gal-shine’ moment in-between, you will be taken on a wonderful journey that will have you grabbing the popcorn, the tissues, and of course, the wine.”
Selane, and Moleya, went into the project with a vision and passion for showcasing a cast and crew of true black excellence, while staying true and authentic to the narratives and characters exhibited in the film.
“I’m super-excited about Happiness Ever After, and being able to continue the uber-relatable story of sisterhood, friendship and love. Sequels are always difficult because the pressure is that much higher, but they also offer something different and exciting – and the opportunity to land the film on a global service like Netflix is its own reward. It is my sincere hope that the film resonates with audiences, and they fall back in love with their favourites and the new faces too,” said Selane in a statement.
