Tbose leaves ‘Skeem Saam’ for the financial services sector

Cornet Mamabolo's character, Tbose, recently got married to his high school sweetheart and mother of his son, Mapitsi Magongwa.

Beloved Skeem Saam actor, Cornet Mamabolo, recently bid farewell to a character that he has been playing since the show’s inception, Thabo “Tbose” Maputla, in favour of a career in the financial services sector.

He made the announcement via his social media and thanked the show’s viewers for all the support over the years.

“I mean I literally matured to be the man I’m today before your eyes,” he wrote before adding: “This is a break for me to primarily focus on my insurance business; Digni Financial Services.”

The end of his message indicates that he will be returning, though. The official Skeem Saam Twitter account also confirmed this, and tweeted; “Cornet Mamabolo will be taking a break from Skeem Saam to focus on his personal interests. But he will be back.”

Sunday World reports that his character, Tbose, recently married his high-school sweetheart and mother of his son, Mapitsi Magongwa.

His departure from the show was linked to a recent storyline that saw the couple travel overseas for their honeymoon.

According to the show, Tbose got a great offer while overseas and would then have to leave his new wife behind.

Tbose and Mapitsi’s nuptials spurred a number of jokes and memes on social media and a user declared Tbose “the only man in South Africa who married his baby mama”.

Fellow actors such as Natasha Tahane and Oros Mampofu marvelled at the move and wished him luck on the new venture while his on-screen and real-life bestie, Clement Maosa, simply said “Love and light boi.”

Fans, on the other hand, joked, teased the man they lovingly call Tbose and wished him luck.

O ka se nyale mosadi wa fetša wa mo tlogela, o mbhorile for a decade, [you can’t marry a woman and then leave her after that. You have bored me for a decade,” commented Instagram user @mr_kupa_.

Another user, @mumu_mukwevho, asked if he can’t just multitask and do both.
