Gomora star Thembi Seete and many other Mzansi celebrities gathered at the private screening of 1802: Love Defies Time on Sunday in Rosebank. The star-studded event was hosted by the award-winning presenter Moshe Ndiki.
Executive producer Lulu Hela said the series has been in development for two years.
“It is a story that is close to our hearts, and we poured our souls into bringing it to life. We hope that our viewers will be swept away by the romance, intrigue, and drama of the series, and join us on this journey through time and love,” she added.
The award-winning producer also thanked 1Magic for their dedication to promoting African entertainment and for providing a platform for African stories to be told.
“With 1802: Love Defies Time, we hope to contribute to the channel’s vision by sharing a unique and compelling tale of love and history. It is an honour to work with a channel that values and supports African creativity and talent,” she said.

The show tells a captivating Xhosa love story of a young intern doctor who finds out that her true love is in another realm, while she is already engaged and ready to marry another man whom she thought was her soulmate.
Lulu said when creating the show, they wanted to not only entertain but also educate viewers about the Xhosa culture.
“1802: Love Defies Time is an epic romantic series that celebrates African love and history. We have a fantastic cast and crew who worked tirelessly to bring this story to life. Our viewers can expect high-quality storytelling, captivating performances, and a unique look at the beauty and complexity of love,” she added.
The talented Sikelelwa plays the lead role of Khosi Sikelelwa. The actress recently starred on Showmax’s hit show Adulting as Natasha. She has also appeared on other TV shows, including House of Zwide. Taking to Instagram, Sikelelwa thanked the show’s producer Lulu Helwa for the opportunity.
“A moment for God. An opportunity to give God the glory for all He has given me. May this journey continue to glorify Him. I am on my knees with gratitude. Enkosi mama @lulu_hela for being the vessel through which God and Amanyange have deposited our dreams,“ she wrote.
The Queen star plays Dr Zuko Phango on 1802: Love Defies Time. Speaking about his role, he wrote on Instagram: “You guys have been asking ‘What’s next’ and now I can finally give you an answer. Welcome to 1802-Love Defies Time”.
Prince will portray the character of Melisizwe. The actor previously starred on Netflix’s popular show Jiva! as Makhekhe.
Other members of the cast include Lusanda Mbane, Thembisa Mdoda-Nxumalo, Zenande Mfenyana, Amanda Quwe, Khayakazi Kula and Lunathi Mampofu.
