BET Africa’s Behind The Story is taking on a new journey with a new presenter and format.
The first four seasons saw Behind The Story being presented by actress Pearl Thusi as she sat down with numerous well-known figures to have real conversations, unveiling the deeper issues each celebrity wants to reveal.
Famous figures who have appeared include Khanyi Mbau, Moonchild Sanelly, Rami Chuene, Dineo Ranaka, AKA and many more. In the fifth season, it has been announced that Nomalanga Shozi, who is no stranger to the broadcasting channel, will be taking over as host.
Speaking to The Citizen, the media personality said she will be bringing her own energy to the hosting duties. Just like Thusi who was never shy to ask the tough questions, Noma says she will make the celebs feel as comfortable as possible and then “strike”.

“[Thusi] has really set a dope precedent for BET particularly for Behind The Story, everybody knows she is not afraid or ashamed to go there and ask those questions. I am super excited to inherit that reputation for the show but I do think my take on it, is a lot more conversational. In a sense that I want you to be as comfortable as possible so that you want to tell me things that I am going to ask you anyway.”
The Citizen exclusively shot behind the scenes of Norma Mngoma’s episode on set, with other expected appearances to include Zakes Bantwini and Gugu Khathi (DJ Tira’s wife).

Season five is also under a new format, instead of the traditional way of having sit down interviews, Behind The Story will now have their interviews in a car.
“It’s the first time in a South African format, that we in a car driving to destinations that mean something to the guest. Kind of getting to know them more and a lot deeper. I also think the car approach is so much fun, siyadrive, siyaxoxa (chatting).”
Behind The Story premieres on 9 October at 6.30pm.
