MultiChoice signs multi-year deal with Disney
The MultiChoice Group has signed a multi-year distribution deal with Walt Disney Company Africa for Disney’s factual and family channels airing on DStv.

National Geographic, National Geographic WILD, Disney Channel and Disney Junior, as well as ESPN and ESPN2 debuted on DStv in 2020 and will continue to be carried by DStv for the next two years, taking the total of Disney-run linear channels on DStv to six.
Senior vice-president and general manager of The Walt Disney Company Africa, Christine Service, says: “This distribution renewal with the MultiChoice Group marks another proud milestone in our long-term relationship. Through this deal, our six 24-hour channels will continue to reach viewers of all ages across the continent, bringing them the very latest in premium, high quality entertainment content from the Walt Disney Company’s portfolio of globally connected, locally relevant kids, family, factual and sports brands.”

Gideon Khobane, group executive for general entertainment content for the MultiChoice Group, says: “Partnering with a brand such as Disney means that we are able to continue to bring our audiences the international content for people of all ages. Thanks to this contract renewal we will be able to bring the magic of Disney into the homes of DStv subscribers everywhere.”

National Geographic highlights over the coming months include new shows The Hot Zone: Anthrax and Primal Survivor ultimate Journey – 60 Days in the Amazon. Viewers will also be able to watch new seasons of Lost Treasures of Egypt, Trafficked with Marianna van Zeller and Gordon Ramsay Unchartered. The channel (DStv channel 181) pushes the boundaries of exploration through ground-breaking storytelling.
National Geographic WILD (DStv channel 182) provides unique insights into the natural world and the amazing creatures that inhabit it. It boasts spectacular cinematography and compelling storytelling to unveil the mysteries of nature.
Viewers can look forward to new shows like Called to the Wild and Planet of the Reptiles, as well as the eighth season of Snakes in the City. The channel will also feature its annual Big Cat Month with new and retold films from Beverly and Derek Joubert.
Disney Channel (DStv channel 303) celebrates friendships through feel good, fun stories infused with music and Disney Junior (DStv channel 309) invites kids into a magical world of fun and imagination, featuring much-loved characters like Mickey Mouse and Alice in Wonderland.
National Geographic: Compact and up, National Geographic WILD: Access and up, Disney Channel: Compact and up, Disney Junior: Access and up, ESPN: Compact and up and ESPN: Compact+ and up will all be available to MultiChoice DStv users until 2024.
