Garth Breytenbach on the mend after bursting his appendix

Actor Garth Breytenbach is in hospital following the burst of his appendix, which left him in hospital for the past two weeks. “Been in hospital for two weeks, had a bad case of hitting the afterlife, but pulled through and hopefully on the mend with bit more bedrest. See nothing much has changed here. Lolz. Pffft not one of you sent a card or flowers,” wrote the actor on his Twitter.

Breytenbach is an established actor who has worked on local and international productions. Some of his movies include Five Fingers For Marseilles in which he played the role of officer De Vries. He also appeared in Long Walk to Freedom. The actor has received support from his followers after sharing the news of his hospitalisation. After one follower enquired what happened to him, the actor explained that he burst his appendix and had widespread sepsis.

Fellow actress Shannon Esra was one of the many who wished Breytenbach well. “My word, Garth. I am so sorry. Glad you are recovering… take it easy, rest lots,” wrote Esra.

Former journalist and now AfriForum communications manager Barry Bateman also wished the actor well. “Yikes! All the best, Garth. Wishing you a speedy recovery,” wrote Bateman.

So did media personality Siv Ngesi.

Tasneem Adams (@Tazztarossa ) was empathetic towards the actor but snuck in a question to get medical advice from the actor. “Eish glad you’re on the mend! If I may ask what was your symptoms of appendix blowing or gona blow? I always wondered how I’d know. I’m told a pain in the side. Uhm I always have bloody pains everywhere so,” she asked.

“Many things from like stress ulcers to gastro type symptoms, but did actually feel the appendix give in which was special pain. Ja think I just ignored the basics,” responded Breytenbach.

It’s unclear when the actor will be discharged from the hospital, this after confirming to a follower that there are still some checks that need to be done on him. “Better now, but still in the woods, few things to recheck and sort out,” said Breytenbach.

Following people’s shock of his hospitalisation, the actor reassured his friends and followers that he’s on the road to recovery. “Appendix on last legs and burst etc, and some bad complications etc but around first corner, so onwards and upwards,” wrote Breytenbach.
