The second season of ‘Op My Eish!’ starts soon and with wingman Schalk Bezuidenhout,, it should be a blast

Choppa, kap hom flou. Dubbelloop, maksimaal, goed, gaaf en geniepsig.” That’s comedian Schalk Bezuidenhout’s advice for his friend, Francois Jacobs, before the launch of the second season of kykNET’s Op My Eish! on Thursday, 14 April.

Why Schalk Bezuidenhout is the ideal wingman

According to Schalk, these are the reasons why he is the ideal wingman for his ‘Choppa,’ Francois:

  1. “I come from Kempton Park. Kempton Park people are the best wingmen. We know the struggles and being single is a struggle.”
  2. “I am a good actor. I can act.” He says although he doesn’t always believe the words coming from his own mouth, he can make it sound trustworthy. “A good wingman sometimes has to twist the truth and play the game.”
  3. Humour is on his side. “A good wingman needs to let his friend look good. How can you do that? You can do it through humour. By making jokes.” But, he says, as a wingman, you need to perfect the art of setting it up and letting your friend throw the punchline. “It’s like passing the ball and letting him score the try. That’s how you do it.”
  4. “I can share. Although I am an only child, I can share.” According to the comedian, that is very important when you are a wingman. “You can’t be selfish. If you also like the girl, you can’t decide you want to move in.” He says as a wingman you are a bystander; the support.
  5. Last, but not least, Schalk says he is the perfect wingman for Francois as he is not as attractive as his bum-flashing friend. “It’s very difficult to be the wingman for someone if you’re more attractive.”

As comedians, one might draw the attention to yourself instead of the person you’re the wingman for.

Schalk says the personality traits of him you might spot during the Op My Eish! series include him trying to keep things flowing by taking a natural presenting approach.

“It just needs to feel like a conversation.”

His humour will obviously also shine through.

“I like bringing humour into a reality series when I am the presenter. I also bring it in at the right times.”

Schalk claims to know very well when it is the right time and place to bring in humour.

“At the beginning of the series, things are still nice and loose and there are no serious feelings yet. Then you can bring in a lot more humour compared to towards the end, when things become more serious.”

The wingman’s ideal woman for Francois

Schalk says the ideal woman for his buddy Francois is one who is not jealous or controlling.

“Francois is a loose cannon. He needs to be given the freedom to go and do his thing. He can’t date a girl who fights with him the next day, saying she saw on Instagram that he flashed his bum at Oppiekoppie. That is who he is. That’s what he does. Anyone who follows him on Instagram will know that.”

Schalk also says that their career in the entertainment industry requires them working with the opposite sex all the time. “Francois so much more,” he says.

“Especially with scenes that are of a romantic nature. Sometimes you need to kiss someone, sometimes more than kiss,” he giggles. “So, yes, jealousy won’t work in our industry.”

He further says Francois needs someone who has a lust for life; ants in her pants like Francois. Although Francois sometimes – with the emphasis on sometimes – enjoys sitting at home, watching a movie while enjoying a glass of red wine, he would more often much rather be “on something with wheels or wings.”

Op My Eish! tips

Since the second season of Op My Eish!’s production has been concluded and the programme will soon be on the tellie, Schalk Bezuidenhout can now speak from experience, sharing some tips with those keen on entering next time:

  • Be in the moment and enjoy it. Don’t break your head about how pretty the other women are or how much better they are suited for the guy.
  • The guy’s best match will be spotted and identified by him, and he will choose her either way.
  • It’s not a competition, like with sport, where the best woman wins. Just enjoy it. “How many people get the opportunity to go away for a month, take part in an exciting activity every day, stay in wonderful lodges, make great friends?”
  • Focus on the fact that it is a wonderful life experience – whether you get chosen or not.

Op My Eish! will also be available for viewing on DStv Catchup.
