The Wedding Bashers is an original production featuring 22 unique weddings and a celebrity team who are experts in their fields.
Former Miss SA Cindy Nell will judge the fashion, while socialite and Vuzu star Denise Zimba is in it for the entertainment. Celebrity chef Siba Mtongana will critique the food and wedding planner extraordinaire Zavion Kotze will judge the décor.
“For weddings, we’ve seen it all, the bad and the worst,” joked Siba.
According to Cindy, there were a lot of fashion crimes at the weddings they attended. But one piece of advice she would like to give brides and grooms is to keep is simple.
As a wedding planner extraordinaire, Zavion has planned 852 weddings. “We’ve seen some weddings that were luxury, some that were trying to be luxury but really aren’t, some DIY weddings, some people that failed at DIY horribly, some themed weddings, (and) some bring and braai weddings.”
Viewers will be treated to all types of weddings, including one in a Snowflake factory, a beach wedding in Pretoria and a comic book superhero wedding.
As an added bonus, people can pick up a few tips for planning their own weddings. Viewers will see what to do and not to do, what looks really terrible and what looks amazing, and “how to get away with murder if you just take care of the basics.”
The show is the brainchild of Idols SA executive director and producer Gavin Wratten. “We went and looked at just about every wedding show on the planet and the one thing that stood out for me is that we’ve never seen a wedding through the eyes of the guests.”
We all go to weddings and have this façade where we compliment people to their faces but criticise them behind their backs, said Gavin.
For the next 12 weeks, the four wedding bashers will travel across the country and attend nuptial celebrations as guests. They will discreetly rate each couple’s big day and the newlyweds with the most votes will win prizes to the value of R800 000.
Viewers will also have the opportunity to vote for their favourite couple online.
The Wedding Bashers will air Sundays at 5pm on M-Net (DStv 101).
