The findings of a recent survey indicated many South Africans were experiencing elevated levels of stress ahead of the 2019 national elections, which were yesterday.
Carried out by Pharma Dynamics among 1 900 people from across the country, the survey revealed that 75% regarded the future of the country as a significant source of stress, 66% were stressed about the current political situation, 30% showed stress about the upcoming elections. A further 40% said they were were suffering from politically related insomnia.
For anyone experiencing this, the solution to your pre- or post-election woes may be easier than you imagined.
Experts have long told us that laughter is an essential part of life. Not only does it lower blood pressure, it reduces stress hormones and increases muscle flexion, the circulation of antibodies in the bloodstream and makes us more resistant to infection.
And if laughter is the best medicine, then The Comedy Mash-Up at Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre tomorrow is just what the doctor ordered.
Brought to you by Taylor Made Productions, the same guys who gave us The Big 5 Comedy Show, the line-up is a laugh-out-loud celebration of the country’s diverse comedy scene.
Hosted by Donovan Goliath and featuring comedy greats such as Conrad Koch (aka Chester Missing), Trevor Gumbi and Nina Hastie along with TolA$$ Mo and rising star of comedy Lindy Johnson, the show is set to be a nonstop laughter fest as the standups touch on the silly, the surreal, the naughty and the nice.
So there’s a way to boost your endorphins and possibly alleviate some stress. Get on down to Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre this Friday for your two-and-a-half hour dose of laughter.
Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm. Tickets are available at Computicket and range from R150 to R250. The show is rated PG 16
