Tensions rise as Zoe leaves ‘Idols’

With only three contestants left in the running, tensions continue to escalate and South Africans will no doubt be on the edges of their seats when male contestants Brenden Ledwaba, Musa Sukwene, and Sonke Mazibuko battle it out during next week’s episode.

For her last two performances on the show, Zoe sang renditions of Michael Jackson’s ‘Rock With You’ and current Miley Cyrus mega-hit ‘Wrecking Ball’.

Although the judges don’t decide who gets eliminated any longer, their feedback after 19-year-old Zoe’s performances was rather bleak.

Shock jock Gareth Cliff bluntly told her that her version of ‘Wrecking Ball’ “was not good”, but added that he “liked her Michael Jackson, I really did” when Unathi Msengana objected.

“This is a hard song to sing – it didn’t meet the mark,” he maintained.

Harsh judge Randall Abrahams said he thinks perfect songs like ‘Rock With You’ shouldn’t be covered and agreed with Gareth that ‘Wrecking Ball’ wasn’t very good. He, however, added that the song’s incredible popularity might help her get through to the next round.

Unfortunately for the singer from Bishop Lavis, this was not the case.

For the next ‘Idols’ episode on Friday, 15 November, the remaining contestants will each perform three numbers: one chosen for them by the judges, one selected by the show’s musical director, RJ Benjamin, and one hit of their own choosing.
