Tbo Touch, Gareth Cliff join forces for free music radio

The popular DJs have teamed up and will be bringing Mzansi and the world the first completely free streaming music service, they announced on Friday.

Tbo Touch, real name Thabo Molefe, kept his fans in suspense for most of this week following a cryptic video he posted on Twitter – while he was living it up in New York – of a “million-dollar announcement”.

He missed his own deadline of Thursday for the announcement, but it because increasingly obvious that it would happen on Friday. The general consensus was that it would involve some sort of radio station deal.

On Friday morning he kept on building the hype by posting more tweets of what he hashtagged as #TouchOnAir.

He clearly also hadn’t failed to notice that he got Mzansi’s attention.

“I’m from the Hood like the real hood, there’s people waiting for this announcement like I’m the Beatles .”

Tbo Touch, until recently, had a rocky ride at Metro and was expected to resign earlier this year during a suspension drama.

There were also rumours that he would be joining Primedia radio station 947, or even work as a talk radio host on Radio 702.

However, 947 station manager Ravi Naidoo never confirmed that Molefe had agreed to join them, although she did say there was a lot of interest in his services. He said there was no formal offer or agreement in place yet.

Whatever, Friday’s announcement was meant to be, one of his tweets suggested that it would involve being suspended by a crane or something, to literally have Molefe being #TouchOnAir.

According to SowetanLive, “the former Metro FM presenter will host the daily drive time show on Touch Central every weekday from 3pm until 7pm. The name of his show remains The Touchdown.”

They said there would be a lot of female jocks.

“Touch also hinted that international hip-hop bigwig DJ Khaled could be joining the platform to host a Saturday night slot.”

TouchCentral will launch in one month’s time.
