Supernatural Santana set for SA

“Team Santana” on Wednesday personally revealed the musician’s upcoming SA tour with a Facebook post that reads: “We are very happy to announce that Santana will be playing in South Africa for the first time.”

Big Concerts on Thursday formally confirmed the news when they tweeted: “#SantanaSA Its official. 25th and 26th Feb at Grand Arena, GrandWest CPT and 1st March at FNB Stadium JHB. Tickets on sale 13 Nov”.

Born in Mexico, multi-award-winning Santana started playing violin at the tender age of five before reaching for the guitar when he was just eight years old. His family later moved to America, and it is there where he made it into the music scene with his band, Santana, during the late 60s and early 70s.

Combining Carlos’ characteristically melodic, blues-based guitar playing with Latin and African rhythms, the Santana sound was unique.

Santana released a number of albums in the decades that followed, but it was his 1999 album, ‘Supernatural’, which lead to a resurgence of popularity and critical acclaim. The album features collaborations with popular 90s musicians such as Everlast, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, and Dave Matthews.

It was, however, the song ‘Smooth’ with Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty which garnered the most attention and spent an impressive twelve weeks in the number one spot of the Billboard Hot 100.
