Popular 23-year-old South African spinner and contestant in the Netflix show, Hyperdrive, Stacey-Lee May, won the Woman of Honour Award at the Vita Basadi Awards ceremony hosted by the Gauteng legislature on Thursday night.
May beat 20 nominees in her category, which celebrates a female who excels in a male-dominated industry.
May, a law student from Eldorado Park in Johannesburg, said she was grateful to the people who support and believe in her.
Her mother, Lizel May, was extremely proud to get the news that Stacey had trumped her peers to win the award.
She said: “When I got the call to say Stacey had won I burst into tears.”
May has been invited to race in one of Pakistan’s biggest stunt shows, the Mountain Dew Extreme Motorfest. The show will be hosted in the cities of Karachi, Multan, Lahore, Islamabad and Gujranwala in September. Drivers from all over the world will take part.
May has started a Go Fund Me drive to help her get to the event in Pakistan and so far has raised $4 312 (R65 568), which is 30% of her goal. There are 21 days left to make a contribution.
