Social Media was alive on Wednesday as fans of the late Kwaito star Lebo Mathosa marked the anniversary of the Boom Shaka singer's death with tributes and memories.

Good Hope FM DJ Selwyn Bartlett was one of the first to comment as he wrote on Facebook: “In memory of Lebo Mathosa tragically killed in a car accident on 23 October 2006….her music lives on!!”
Others were quick to follow with an array of images and memories posted on Twitter. Fan Speila Tweeted:” Today 7 years ago South Africa lost an Angel!!! Gone too soon”, while Ntando May posted: “23 Oct 2006. The world would never be the same again.”
Mathosa, who sprung to prominence as a teenager when she was spotted by Don Laka, became known for her dyed blond hair, her live shows and over the top outfits. She was regarded by many as the new Brenda Fassie.
Although Mathosa’s Boom Shaka band mates all boast Twitter presences, at the time of writing, none of them had posted to mark the anniversary of her passing.
