SAMAs move to a new home

South African Music Awards (SAMAs) chairperson Refiloe Ramogase says even though the music awards will be taking place in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal and not in the North West province, the awards will always stay true to their DNA and move to other provinces every year, in a show that they are in fact striving to give the whole of Mzansi a chance to host the prestigious event.

Speaking on Morning Live, Ramogase says Durban is the ideal city this year  as “it has strategically positioned itself as the leading destination not only in South Africa, but Africa, in terms of being the leading events capital of the continent.”

Ramogase further explained that the Durban weather also played a part in this major move. “The weather in Durban is fantastic. We are going to pull out all the stops to make sure that we have a fantastic event this year,” he said.

Ramogase says the awards which have a long history of promoting local music and acknowledging the contribution made by artists, will have one or two host as this gives the show a sense of structure. He says the nominees will be announced in mid-April.
