“The passing of our iconic founding father has necessitated these changes as we strive to bring around the clock coverage of this great man to millions of viewers country wide,” spokeswoman Zandile Nkonyeni said in a statement.
“Our viewers can still catch their favourite shows on our sister channels during this time and we will make an announcement once everything goes back to normal,” she said.
Popular soap operas Generations and Muvhango would be broadcast on SABC 1 for the rest of the week at 8pm and 8.30pm, respectively, while 7de Laan and Isidingo would be broadcast on SABC 3 at 6.30pm and 7.30pm, respectively.
SABC 1 would broadcast an hour-long special of Khumul’Ekhaya on Wednesday at 9pm.
On the sports front, the third One Day International cricket match between the Proteas and India would be broadcast live on SABC 3 on Wednesday from 1pm.
A special episode of Top Billing would be aired on SABC 3 on Thursday from 9.30pm, paying tribute to Tata Madiba.
Nkonyeni said the broadcast details of Mandela’s funeral on Sunday had yet to be finalised and would be announced closer to the time.
