‘Real Housewives of Johannesburg’ coming to SA screens

The first cast of the 'Real Housewives of Johannesburg' has recently been revealed. The show which is recorded all over the city follows the lives of six women as they tackle the role of wife, mother, career woman and socialite.

Whether the show would make it to South African screens was up in the air earlier this year as Barbie Brazil, a Joburg woman, claimed that she had the rights to the show but NBC Universal refuted the claims.

The show’s project manager, Archie Tigere, confirmed the show’s line-up of stars exclusively to City Press this week. Regarding Brazil’s claims, he said the NBC Universal had dismissed her claims and appointed him the rightful owner of the title in this country.

The show will be produced by Sonia Sedibe, who played Ntombi on SABC1 soapie Generations. Puleng Mash-Spies, who was previously on the cooking reality show ‘Come Dine With Me’, leads the cast of the Real Housewives.

Nazli Delport, image consultant and marketing manager of top Joburg nightspots Hush and Kong will also be on the show.

Tigere said the Real Housewives of Johannesburg would be different to versions set in other cities because it would “showcase and profile successful women in South Africa”.

“These types of women work hard and deserve to be celebrated,” he said. Sedibe said the show wouldn’t be an extended gloat session. “There is no crass materialism,” she said.

Tigere added: “We won’t be going into their ‘fat’ bank accounts.” The show will reportedly be broadcast early next year on DStv.
