One of the voices who kept the masses entertained at King Charles’ coronation last weekend, South African-born soprano, Pretty Yende has been forced to cancel a performance in Austria due to an injury.
Yende, made history by being the first African singer to perform solo for the coronation of a British monarch. The artist took to her Instagram account on Thursday to share the unfortunate news about cancelling her last show.
“Dear Friends, I’m so sorry to report that I will not be able to perform my last performance of Manon at Wiener Staatsoper due to sustaining a very serious injury during my second performance on the stage before going to sing at the Coronation.
“I was hoping that my injury would subside but unfortunately, it’s not the case and I have to follow medical advises from my doctors and take care in order to heal as quickly as possible,” Yende wrote on Instagram.
“I would like to send my sincerest apologies to my colleagues and the theatre, deepest thanks as they were incredibly kind to me during the last performances after my injury. I hope to be well soon and resume my artistic commitments. Many thanks to the public of Vienna who were there and have been kindly asking if I’m going to be ok.”
Yende had already performed at the Wiener Staatsoper last week Wednesday, and was due to take the stage again this coming Saturday. Yende did Sarah Class’ The Sacred Fire at the Coronation on Saturday to much adulation from the global community.
