Hosted by Bongo Maffin member Stoan Seate and television presenter Lalla Hirayama, the evening was typically chock full of scandalous hilarity, so much so that clearly impressed trio Mi Casa tweeted: “These awards are amazing … So dam funny! Well done @feathersSA #Feathers2013”
Stand-out moments throughout the evening included Lalla’s numerous costume changes, Gauteng Premiere Nomvula Mokonyane accepting her award for Diva Extraordinaire, and Khuli Roberts accepting Savita Mbuli’s Drama Queen of the Year award on her behalf. Roberts was accused of having an affair with Savita’s late husband, Vuyo, after he passed away earlier this year.
As the brainchild of young entrepreneur Thami Kotlolo, this glamorous prize giving honours local celebrities and high-flying go-getters who inspire South Africa’s gay community.
The organisers of the Feathers take a unique tongue-in-cheek approach to their award categories, which sometimes cut close to the bone and don’t spare the egos of even the rich and famous.
