Nina Hastie shares inspiring story about overcoming drug addiction

South Africans are sending lots of love Nina Hastie’s way after she opened up about her struggles with drug addiction.


The comedian was a guest on Pearl Modiadie’s talk show Zaziwa this week.

During the interview Nina revealed that she had been raped three times.

She also talked openly about being an alcoholic and her drug addiction.

Nina told Pearl that it was a hard to overcome her struggles, but she woke up one day and decided it’s time to be kind to herself.

She says she is sharing her story in the hope of inspiring other women.

“I speak to women, and I want them to know that they are allowed to live. No matter what happened in their past. Look how making one decision changed my whole life,” she said.
Nina, who also revealed that she was ostracised by her family, says she wouldn’t change anything about her traumatic past.
She says she now has the opportunity to share her story, which “could save someone’s daughter who is watching”.

Viewers were touched by Nina’s story and her bravery.

They took to social media to praise her for sharing her emotional journey.

“Wow, I love @THATninahastie even more now. What a strong, beautiful woman. Even after the darkest storms she comes out shining bright,” on viewer tweeted.

Another added: “@THATninahastie am crying… you are so strong darling… to live with so much trauma and still be able to smile and keep your head up.”
