The Ndlovu Youth Choir chose the song “Africa” from American band Toto for their act in the final of America’s Got Talent.
The Limpopo-based choir linked to their performance to Facebook and said: “Tonight we were proud young ambassadors of a united Africa. Our beautiful continent has the world’s youngest population and our hope is that our performance reflected the talent, opportunity and potential of millions of young people. One nation, one continent.”
The positive message comes in the wake of them no doubt seeing footage of weeks of unrest and anti-foreigner sentiment in their home country, making their message doubly poignant.
Win or not, the group has flown the South African flag high and done the country proud. The winners are chosen by public vote.
In a follow-up post, the group said: “Tonight we were proud young ambassadors of a united world. We just performed in the grand finale at America’s Got Talent! Help us end our incredible AGT journey on a high, we need your vote.”
