Comprised of twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye, P-Square burst onto the Naija music scene back in 2003, with the release of their debut album, ‘Last Nite’. They started gaining popularity in and around the rest of Africa after the independent release of their second album, ‘Get Squared’, and continued to do so with three more offerings. Their fifth and most recent album, ‘The Invasion’, dropped in 2011 and includes hit single ‘Beautiful Oyinye’, which features American rapper Rick Ross.
By receiving the Special Recognition Award, the P-Square siblings follow in the footsteps of other ground-breaking African musicians, including record label boss and DJ Oscar ‘Oskido’ Mdlongwa, Nigerian singer-songwriter D’Banj, Somali-born rapper K’Naan, South African afro-pop legend Brenda Fassie, and late Ghanaian jazz legend George Lee.
The 2013 Channel O Africa Music Video Awards will take place at the Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown, Soweto, on Saturday, 30 November.
