The fifth annual Spring Fiesta music festival is expected to be even bigger this year, with the addition of a seventh stage.
Radio personality and DJ, Mo Flava (Moeti Tsiki) will be hosting his own dance floor, House Of Flava, where he plans to give festivalgoers the same fiery experience they would have at a typical Johannesburg night club with sets from DJs including Emo Boys, Mobi Dixon, Merlon and Twins on Decks.
“I’ve chosen some of the hottest house DJs from the past eighteen months to come play on my stage,” says Mo Flava. “The plan is to create a really unique club experience at the festival. People should expect a high quality production with a world-class dance offering.”
Speaking on how he managed to score his own stage at the festival, he says it came after years of hard work. “I’ve built a solid name for myself as a club DJ, so the organisers know that they can trust me with an event like this. I’ve also been performing at the Spring Fiesta since it started so I have a good relationship with the organisers.”
In a country where local hip-hop stars seem to be dominating many festivals, the Spring Fiesta is one of the few places where house music is king, but Mo Flava believes there are more than enough opportunities for both hip-hop and house musicians to thrive.
“The rise of one genre doesn’t mean the fall of another. Yes, hip-hop is very popular right now, but that doesn’t take anything away from house music. If anything, the rise of a genre is always good for local music as a whole.”
This year’s event will be headlined by dance music heavyweights Rocco, Osunlade and Lars Behrenroth. Actress and television presenter Pearl Thusi will host the event together with DJ Warrass and DJ Spectacula.
