Miss Soweto auditions start this weekend

Auditions for this year’s Miss Soweto will begin this weekend at Protea Glen Mall in Soweto.

Former winners include Basestana Makgalemele-Khumalo and Miss Universe Augustine Masilela-Chuene and have also been a stepping stone for the likes of Liezl Laurie (Miss South Africa 2014) who won the title of Miss Personality in 2010.

The semi-finals for the 2015 Miss Soweto contest takes place at Protea Glen Mall on October 31 and Maponya Mall on November 7 at 10am.

The Miss Soweto pageant has become an institution in the township since the first event in 1979 – and this year organisers have upped the stakes with a prize valued at over R10 000.

The next Miss Soweto will be announced December 5 during a gala event at the stunning Soweto Theatre.

What you need to know:

  • Hopefuls need to be between the ages of 18 and 24.
  • If you plan on entering on October 31 or November 7 you have to bring a swimming costume and shoes to wow judges.
  • The entry fee is R200.
