The nominees for the 2016 Metro FM music awards were announced in Fourways, Johannesburg on Thursday.
The awards aim to honour music excellence as well as artists who gave the nation some of the best music, over the last 12 months.
Voting opened this morning and will end on February, 14. The winners from each category will be awarded with R100 000. For the the first time, the Metro FM music awards will include the African category, with African artists nominated.
The music event will be held on the February 27, 2016 at the iNkosi Albert Luthuli ICC, Durban and will have a live broadcast on SABC1.
Metro FM also unveiled a human size statuette that will be on the roadshow to all the provinces of SA.
Leading the nominations is Nomvula hitmaker, Nathi with 5 nods, followed by most featured artist Riky Rick with 4 and Zonke with 3 nominees among other artists.
