The movie, which stars British actors Idris Elba and Naomie Harris, South African actors Tony Kgoroge, Riaad Moosa, Lindiwe Matshikiza, Terry Pheto, Jamie Bartlett, and Deon Lotz was based on the late former president Nelson Mandela’s autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom.
Film producer, Anant Singh said he was honoured to have been hosted by the Indian president for the screening.
“Madiba had a very special place in his heart for the people of India and for the government of India’s support of the anti-apartheid movement, especially as India was the first country to take up this cause,” Singh said in a statement.
The movie was released in Austria, Germany, New Zealand, Nigeria and Ghana this week.
It was scheduled to be released in Hong Kong, Australia and Greece on February 6, followed by Finland on February 13 and Turkey on February 28.
It was released in South Africa on November 28 and was still on circuit.
