MAMAs to be held in Jo’burg
The city of Joburg has decided to host the biggest spectacle of the African entertainment industry.

The MTV African Music Awards (MAMAs) are among the most prestigious award ceremonies the industry has to offer.
At the official announcement media briefing held at Emoyei, Parktown, Monde Twala, vice-president of BET, Youth & Music, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa, expressed his excitement to officially kick start the journey on the road leading to that great night in October.
In his speech, Twala touched on the fact that the MAMAs are one of the ways Viacom celebrates African content. Making use of the great collaborations that have taken place across all sectors of the continent, he further went on to explain how having Joburg Tourism’s support has made this year’s awards even greater than before.

With ABSOLUT vodka as the headlining sponsor, Head of Marketing: Pernod-Ricard, Melanie Campbell touched on the involvement for the brand in the awards together with the switch in sponsorship of award categories.
This year the nominee party will take place in two major cities, the first Johannesburg and the other Lagos, Nigeria.
It is not said who the nominees are, as submissions are still being considered. However, the date for the awards is set to be October 21, 2016 at the Ticketpro Dome.
