Mafikizolo, Lady Zamar headline Jozi Tese Festival

The picturesque Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens in Ruimsig is set to play host to over 5 000 revellers this Sunday at the second annual Jozi Tese Festival.

Hot on the heels of the phenomenal success of the inaugural Jozi Tese Festival last year, organisers are pulling out all the stops to raise the bar with yet another stellar event.

The bustling outdoor lifestyle festival is known to offer an interesting blend of activities ranging from live music, a local artisan food market, pop-up bars and a variety of exhibitions including health, fashion and beauty. A major part of the festival is the vibrant live music programme with carefully selected acts booked for the day.

It is led by none other than South Africa’s Afro pop sensations Mafikizolo, Lady Zamar, Soweto-based house music duo Sai and Ribatone, Sama award winning indie rock band Desmond and the Tutus and SAbased Nigerian guitarist Kunle Ayo as well as king of Afro-house DJ Ganyani. BET are broadcast partners and, true to form, organisers have secured the talents of some of Gauteng’s hottest new bands, among them the Rubber Duc and fast-rising Pretoria music trio, Encore.

“After successfully testing it out last year, we are all set and ready to offer festival goers a free-spirited atmosphere where they are able to have a great ‘jol’ against the backdrop of spectacular live music,” said festival director Tshepo Riba.

Commenting on BET’s return to the festival, Monde Twala, vice-president of Viacom Africa’s BET, Youth and Music portfolio, said: “We are honoured to be part of a festival of this nature, which plays a role in empowering local artists while continuing to contribute to the country’s cultural, social and economic vitality.

“As a network that strives to elevate artists and provide them with a platform, we don’t take this kind of programme for granted.”
