After the success of Hamlet last year, Pieter Toerien will present Abrahamse & Meyer’s dazzling take on Macbeth at Montecasino.
Marcel Meyer’s evocative and visually spectacular staging of Macbeth will make this tragedy unmissable. The production comes to Johannesburg hot on the heels of its European debut at the international Shakespeare festival.
Macbeth is currently being studied by Grade 12 English additional language as well as Grade 11 English home language pupils. Don’t miss the opportunity to see this innovative reimagining of one of the greatest plays written, starring Marcel Meyer, Stephen Jubber, Matthew Baldwin, Jeremy Richard, Tailyn Ramsamy and Tristan de Beer.
From August 15 to September 9, Macbeth will be staged at 11am and 3pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, along with a 3pm show on Fridays and Sundays and a 4pm and 8pm show on Saturdays.
Starting next week, the State Theatre is presenting The Fall, an original production based on the #RhodesMustFall movement at the University of Cape Town between 2015 and 2016.
The play will be headlining the 10th annual youth expression festival to commemorate youth month in June. The Fall is a vital new production devised by seven University of Cape Town drama graduates who share their personal experiences during the #RhodesMustFall, #FeesMustFall and subsequent student movements that swept South Africa in the last few years.
It is a frank collaborative piece of workshop theatre devised by the cast, facilitated by Clare Stopford, and curated by Ameera Conrad and Thando Mangcu, two members of the ensemble.
The dynamic cast also includes Oarabile Ditsele, Tankiso Mamabolo, and Zandile Madliwa
