LISTEN: The craziest, funniest voicemail you’ll hear

The viral voicemail is a reminder of the power of sound.

It may come as a surprise to most of our readers born in the ‘80s, but there was a time in South Africa when many of us did not have TV sets, cellphones, computers, or Wi-Fi. So how did we keep ourselves entertained, you ask?

The simple answer is radio. More specifically Springbok Radio, which, and you can ask your parents and grandparents about this, had a range of different radio soap operas such as Jet Jungle and Squad Cars.

Kids and their families would settle in front of their radios eager to hear how the men of Squad Cars would “prowl the empty streets at night, waiting in fast cars and on foot” to protect the people of SA from violence and crime.

The radio soap era was proof of the power of sound and how it stirred the imagination without the use of images.

The following voicemail, which starts out innocently enough, quickly takes a creatively hilarious turn. It will transport you to the scene of the crime and have you laughing out loud.
