Laura Mvula is looking forward to working with John Legend and Alicia Keys.
The ‘Green Garden’ singer has been inundated with calls since her debut album, ‘Sing to the Moon’ took off, and can’t wait to meet some of the people who inspired her in her career so far.
Speaking at the Barclay Card Mercury Prize in London last night (30.10.13), Laura told BANG Showbiz: ”Jill Scott is my new best mate, and John Legend is in touch, Alicia Keys, I’m doing something with in a couple of weeks, so I feel like, man, I’m dropping all these names! I don’t think they realise that I’m not all that huge over here.
”[With] Alicia, she heads up the Keep A Child Alive Ball, and I’m going to be appearing at that in New York, which should be very cool.”
Laura who was shortlisted for the prize, but lost out to James Blake said she has found trekking around the world promoting her debut ”exhausting” and ”weird, but in a good way” and has mixed feelings about starting her second at the moment.
She added: ”I think about it a lot. The thoughts vary, sometime it feels like ‘Oh dear, when am I going to find space to write something?’ Other times it feels very relaxed and I feel like everything’s as clear as day and something will come any minute, I’m kind of taking my time.”
‘Sing to the Moon’ is out now.
