Miss South Africa, Ntandoyenkosi Kunene, is set to compete in the Miss Universe pageant. The reigning queen will represent the country in the Philippines’ capital, Manila, on January 30.
Kunene, who took part in Miss World in the US last month, will hope to beat 85 beauties from other countries in the competition to be broadcast live on the FOX Television Network from the Mall of Asia Complex.
Miss Universe, Pia Wurtzbach from the Philippines, will hand her crown over to the new queen at the event hosted by comedian Steve Harvey.
“I learned a great deal from my participation in Miss World, and I’m really looking forward to the Miss Universe pageant,” Kunene said.
The pageant, which started as a marketing competition by California firm Catalina Swimwear in 1952, has evolved over the past 64 years into an annual tradition, celebrating intelligence, poise and beauty.
