Khanyi Magubane leaves SAFM after 13 years
Among Magubane's reasons for leaving was a salary package/offer that "did not speak to where I am professionally and was not in line with my growth."

As ‘March Madness’ and all the line-up changes in South African radio are announced, broadcaster Khanyi Magubane has tendered her resignation to SAFM after 13 long years.
In a statement posted on social media, Magubane stated that she made the decision after much reflection about her future and where she is “as a professional.”
“It was not an easy decision to make, especially as I was offered a new contract to stay at the station, but unfortunately the offer on the table from management did not speak to where I am professionally and was not in line with my growth,” read part of Magubane’s statement.

According to Magubane, she has “made the difficult decision” to stand up for her value as a broadcaster and will no longer be presenting her Sound Awake slot between 03h00 and 05h00.
She will now focus all her attention on her studies and her entrepreneurial pursuits.
Messages of support and disappointment at her predicament streamed in from fellow broadcasters and listeners alike.
Thank you Big Brad!!!

My heart breaks because media is really one of those industries that does not appreciate black women’s talent and contribution. The longer you stay, the more you are devalued. I wish you all the best.

The station also recently announced a new line up featuring the likes of Ayanda Allie Paine, Songezo Mabece, Chris Vick and Mathumo Manaka who will be on air from 01 April 2019 onwards.
The new additions were given slots on different weekdays between 13h00 and 00hoo, therefore not affecting Magubane’s slot so the station will have to find a replacement for her.
The SABC could not be reached for comment.
