The Lahla singer is leading the KwaZulu Natal choir and says there are high expectations from the public and her choir members.
“KwaZulu Natal has won this competition twice before, so there is a lot of pressure on me,” she says. “I also feel like I have the hopes and dreams of all my choir members in my hands and I don’t want to disappoint them.”
Gqulu admits that she is in a disadvantage because she doesn’t have any choral experience.
“People like Kelly [Khumalo] and Sifiso [Ncwane] are my biggest competition because they are performers who also have experiences of being in a choir, but I have a lot of faith in the people that I’ve selected to be part of my team.”
Speaking on her game plan to winning the competition, Gqulu says.
“My strategy is to outperform all the other choirs. All he choirs in the competition can sing, but not everyone can put on an entertaining show. That is what we are going to do.”
