Following a successful run at the 2018 Liberty Radio Awards, Johannesburg-based station Hot 91.9 FM has come out tops once again with a whopping 11 awards after this past weekend’s ceremony.
Regarded as the “Oscars” of South African radio, Saturday evening saw the stars of the radio industry come out in full force to celebrate what has been described as a credible, well-judged programme that promotes excellence in radio with a view to ensuring that radio remains one of the foremost media choices in South Africa.
Hot 91.9 FM is a community radio station based in Northriding and broadcasting to Johannesburg North and surrounding areas. According to the station, they play “the best ‘Old Skool’ and R&B music, with the most popular radio personalities as well as the most spectacular on-air promotions and off-air presence,” and they managed to outshine their 2018 record of eight awards and two hall-of-fame inductions.

CEO of the Liberty Radio Awards Lance Rothschild said in a statement: “The standard of this year’s entries was exceptionally high and adjudication scoring was incredibly close, but I am confident that the results reflect the best work within the industry.
“Excellent performance and content rewards listeners for the time that they spend listening to a station or program and compels them to remain tuned in for longer. It also reinforces the relationship between a station or program and the listener, which ultimately contributes to the sustainability of radio,” he added.
Among the other big winners on the night are Umhlobo Wenene FM, Kaya FM, and Tuks FM.
