Inaugural Royalty Soapie Awards finalists announced

The technical and creative category finalists for the much-anticipated inaugural Royalty Soapie Awards have been announced and include a host of top local shows.

The Royalty Soapie Awards were launched in April to honour and recognise excellence in the South African soap opera productions.

“Central to the purpose of these awards is to promote creativity, quality and excellence of local productions,” said Royalty Soapie Awards project director Sindile Xulu.

“The technical and creative areas are the bedrock of great productions and it is in this regard that our first finalist’s announcement focuses on these categories. All too often it is easy to rather discuss the more popular categories concerning the actors, and overlook these other critical areas. We hope the industry and the public will take time to review our standards in the technical and creative spheres, because it is these areas that make the difference between an average production or a sterling soap opera.”

Some of the finalists for the creative and technical categories include 7de Laan, Binneland, Generations, Isibaya, Isidingo and The Wild.

e.tv recently pulled both its soaps Rhythm City and Scandal! from the awards citing a lack of information about the planned awards.

The Royalty Soapie Awards are set to take place on 2 November in Durban.
