December is just around the corner and the gigs are getting more interesting and frequent.
Soon party-goers will have difficulty deciding which event will be the most fun. Do not despair though, because a gig guide is all you need to be able to navigate your way to some great entertainment.
Gospel Goes Classical
Carnival City’s Big Top Arena is the setting of the fifth edition of the highly acclaimed Gospel Goes Classical showcase on October 27. The Africa Worship themed show features artists from South Africa, the US, Nigeria, Ghana and Switzerland.
“Year after year Gospel Goes Classical is enjoyed by thousands of fans. We could not be more thrilled to host this show at Carnival City,” says marketing manager Michelle Smith.
While previous editions have featured great artists such as Donnie McClurkin, Jonathan Butler, Benjamin Dube, Rebecca Malope and the late Sfiso Ncwane, it gets better this year. Dlophe Records have gone all out to bring to the stage some of the best talent in gospel.
The stellar line-up this year will feature Joe Mettle, Nduduzo Matse, SAMA, Crown Gospel and Africa Gospel award-winner Ntokozo Mbambo.
Topping the bill is the world-renowned Vashawn Mitchell from the US. Few gospel singers can compare to Mitchell who is the most nominated artist at the 27th Annual Stellar Awards. He is also a nominee for two Grammy awards and two DOVE awards. He will perform his single Nobody Greater, which has been the most played gospel song of the year, and spent nine weeks on Billboard’s Gospel Songs Chart.

Tickets can be booked at Computicket, ranging in price from R240 to R450 per person.
Sanlam Handmade Contemporary Fair
The annual Sanlam Handmade Contemporary Fair always promises to be a fair unlike any other. Featuring groundbreaking designs, food and wine, this lively celebration of great design personifies the sophistication and boldness of all things “well made in Africa”.
The fair is now in its ninth edition, and gives fair-goers and trend-watchers a chance to be the first to encounter the work of top evolving creatives.
Starting Friday and ending on Sunday, the event transformed the rooftop of Hyde Park Corner into a contemporary heaven of explosive inventiveness.

Comedy fans who appreciate straight-up, no-feelings-spared, raw comedy from the mouth of a man who tells it as it is will get all of this and more when Mashabela Galane hits the stage at Carnival City’s Bru’s this month.
Laugh and Dance is Carnival City’s latest offering of vernacular comedy night sessions, presenting one local comedian at a time. On October 31, Galane takes to the stage to make comedy fans laugh hysterically as he speaks about all things African.

This installment of jokes will see the Limpopo-born funny man digging deeper into the day-today challenges the residents face, amongst other things.
From their rental accommodation in the backrooms of Tembisa, to the struggles of trying to speak Zulu, moving to the suburbs of Johannesburg and eventually becoming homeowners and reaching independence.
Hailing from Polokwane, this laugh-a-minute funny man says that he is generally a bit of an introvert. It was at school that he realised that, when making fun of his teachers and fellow pupils, people found him hilarious so he decided to be a stand-up comic.
Tickets to this show cost R150 per person and are available from Computicket.
