South Africans are well known for making light of dark times and in this age of social media, comedy relief has evolved since the ages of standup.
The arts industry has suffered because of the restrictions brought by the pandemic, instead of waiting for the department of arts and culture for relief, a group of popular local comedians have organised a mini comedy festival aptly titled ‘COVID RELIEF’.
From 1-3 October at Radisson RED, Rosebank, over 30 comedians will be dishing out much-needed laughter and joy.
Johannesburg International Comedy Festival (JICF) founder Takunda Bimha said the event experience will bring some belly laughs.
“Not only do we want to bring back some laughter and levity but also pay homage to our amazing comedians whose stage time and very livelihoods have been compromised over the past year or so. Comedy my old friend….how we’ve missed you,” he said in a statement.
The comedy line includes faces you may know very well such as Jason Goliath, Sifiso Nene, David Kau, Celeste Ntuli, Ndumiso Lindi, Joey Rasdien, Mpho Popps and Nina Hastie. News faces include Lindy Johnson, Tsitsi Chiumya, and Lihle Msimang.
JICF says its lineup is suited for every palate.
The mini comedy festival will also include panel discussions, podcasts, behind the scenes digital content and fun interactions for guests such as photo ops and after-show drinks.
JICF was founded in 2015 and has become the best ticket to get your comedy relief in the country.
The age restriction for all comedy shows is 18 years old.
Tickets are limited, go on www.webtickets.co.za to find out more.
