Get into the ‘new year, new me’ spirit with these workout playlists

Whether you’re a beginner looking to get into the swing of things with new year resolutions or a committed fitness fanatic who is fighting the urge to roll your eyes at the swarms of people who are currently at the gym, you’re going to need workout playlists to help get you through your workouts.

Apple Music understands this and they have compiled an extensive range of workout playlists that they believe will serve as the perfect motivation for achieving those new year resolutions.

“Whether you’re looking to turn over a new leaf or hoping to increase the intensity of your training, Apple Music has you covered. Thoughtfully curated by Apple Music, the playlists range from home workouts, high intensity, cardio and cycling, to yoga, meditation, rowing, weights, jumping rope, running, pilates and walking.”

This summer, the global streaming platform has tapped legendary Afrikaans rocker and title-winning boxer, Francois van Coke, and prolific Cape Town fitness instructor and entrepreneur, Tammy Rawstron, to take over two of Apple Music’s flagship fitness playlists Fiks of Niks and Summer Fit respectively.

The pair will be sharing their favourite workout tracks to sweat to.

“I’ve been serious about my fitness for the past few years, but I took it to a new level this year when I had to beat up a Springbok. This is my workout playlist of the past few months. I regularly update it with new tunes or tunes that I rediscover. My Apple Music playlist is also not genre-specific at all. It features pop, punk, rock and hip-hop and a few other things in between,” said Francois.

“Let’s get healthy and happy together, if you were looking for a sign, this is it. Don’t attempt a fit summer without a set of trendy tracks. Listen up, you can’t help but get moving! Fitness was always supposed to be fun. Summer was always supposed to be sweaty so let’s have the hottest summer ever,” added Tammy.

Apple Music’s workout playlists also include guest-curated playlists from some of South Africa’s leading sports personalities including Protea’s captain Temba Bavuma, Springbok rugby player Makazole Mapimpi, cricketing legend AB de Villiers and Olympic gold medalist swimmer Chad La Clos.

As part of their year-end charts, Apple Music has also launched a brand new Top 100 2021: Fitness playlist, featuring the most-played workout music across Apple Music this year.

The Top Streamed Workout Song of 2021 was a song called Head & Heart featuring MNEK (the Tiësto Remix) by Joel Corry.
