Frozen 2 review: Characters reunite for another ice-bound adventure

Frozen has been one of the most successful Disney animated productions in years and its sequel has been an eagerly anticipated event.

The popular characters – Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Sven and Olaf the snowman – have been reunited for another ice-bound adventure.

They leave Arendelle to travel to an ancient, autumn-bound forest of an enchanted land where they set out to find the origin of Elsa’s powers in order to save their kingdom.

The filmmakers have stated that this is not another Frozen.

It is an ambitious and spectacularly visual continuation of a journey that builds not only the story that audiences fell in love with but deepens and enriches all of the characters and their place in the scheme of things.

New characters and a number of fresh songs have been included in this version which attempts to answer how Elsa acquired her magical powers.

It also provides answers to the fate of their parents on their treacherous journey. A back story fills in many of the gaps.

Josh Gad reprises the vocal role of Olaf. He has become more inquisitive, has grown in stature and is more self-aware. He has also become more of a learned snowman.

Idina Menzel voices Elsa, Queen of Arendelle, who possesses magical ice powers, and Kristen Bell voices Anna, Elsa’s younger sister.

Jonathan Groff, whom I recently saw in the Netflix series Mindhunter, voices Kristoff, an ice harvester and Anna’s boyfriend, as well as the voices of Sven and the reindeer.

The images are appealing, with some spectacular backdrops, and the positive messages conveyed sit snugly within the Disney ethos.

This Frozen serves as ideal holiday entertainment for all.
