The brainchild of renowned actor and musician Wandile Molebatsi, dance film ‘Hear Me Move’ was penned by screenwriter Fidel Namisi and directed by Scottness Smith.
The cast is comprised of many well-known celebrities, including actors Amanda Du Pont and Boity Thulo, comedian Trevor Gumbi, dancer and choreographer Lorcia Cooper, and former Boom Shaka member Thembi Seete.
Originally written in 2008, the cast and crew have come a long way to make the world class movie they aimed to create, and all their hard work will finally pay off when this unique SA film hits cinemas in September 2014.
Namisi spoke to the Daily Sun about the challenging task of writing the script.
“As scriptwriter and co-producer, my role was to oversee the big plans that Wandile had for this production. It took a long time to get to where it is now,” he said.
Seete spoke of her pride at being part of this groundbreaking film.
“I am very excited. This is South Africa’s first dance movie. The movie is educational and will teach people about the challenges of being a dancer,” she said.
Wandile provided a brief outline of the ‘Hear Me Movie’ storyline, saying: “The movie follows a talented hip hop dancer called Muzi. He faces many challenges in trying to make it in the industry.
“The role of Muzi is played by Nyaniso Mdezedze, a professional dancer who has travelled overseas to make a name for himself.”
This is not the first time Scottness, Fidel, and Wandile collaborated to create a movie. They often work together under the latter’s production company, ‘Coal Stove Pictures’, which has produced films such as ‘Tooth and Nails’, ‘Lucky Numbers’, and ‘KeJive’.
