Easter Weekend Festivities

Easter is a great time to spend with your family. Whether you’re going to church, travelling, or just spending time at home, you have a few extra days to either relax or have fun with the ones you love.

1. Zulu Kingdom Easter Beach Festival

From Friday, April 3 to Monday, April 6, you can take the kids and head off to Montecasino for Easter on the beach. There will be a tropical beach playground where the kids can play from 10am to 5pm every day, which includes treasure hunts, hoola hoop competitions, sandcastle building and tug-o-war competitions. Parents can relax at the Midlands Meander Picnic area and at sunset the Outdoor Piazza beach will be transformed into a Calypso playground with marimba music, fire-dancers and a cocktail bar.

2. Easter at Sun City

Sun City offers you and your family great entertainment over the Easter Weekend. From Wednesday, April 1 to Tuesday, April 7, songs from 80s rock bands will be revived in the alternative rock tribute show Hey Now, Hey Now, Now! Fans will hear hits by The Cure, The Cult, U2, The Pixies, Depeche Mode, the Violent Femmes, The Clash, and many more.

On Saturday, April 4 there’s an open air music event called Swing City Under the Stars, featuring Graeme Watkins from the Graeme Watkins Project, Loyiso Bala and Lloyd Cele.

There’s also live entertainment throughout the weekend at the Valley of Waves with DJ Lamiez, at Traders featuring DJ Tony, and at Harlequins featuring Clinton Viljoen.

An Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Sunday 5^th April at 15h00 on the Cabanas Lawns, followed by a family-style picnic and games with live entertainment featuring TopDeck Band, who will also perform at Traders on Friday 3^rd April from 20h00.

Kamp Kwena will stage two interactive, supervised workshops daily to keep children aged four to 12 entertained with Easter crafts, biscuit decorating, visits to the crocodile farm, game drives at the Pilanesberg National park, musical games, and much more.

3. “Egg-citing” Easter at Carnival City

Until Monday, April 13, children can have some fun posing for pictures in the themed photo booth, and on date, there will be a giant Easter Egg filled with chocolate delights for children to grab. Parents can kick back in one of the complex’s many restaurants while the kids are kept entertained – or they can join the action.

Children from six and older can go to the Lazer Zone where they can play in a three-layered darkened maze. Players must “hunt” their opponents and avoid being targeted. Some family-friendly movies like Home, Cinderella and Strikdas are showing at the Carnival City Ster-Kinekor and parents can take their kids to the Magic City Arcade to play on the gaming machines and enjoy the colourful environment.

4. The Rand Show

South Africa’s oldest and best loved consumer show kicks off tomorrow at 9am at the Nasrec Expo Centre. On until April 12, highlights at this year’s show include the SANDF’s action-packed arena displays and static exhibits, giant inflatable slides and jumping castles in the indoor Kids Paradise playground, a science and technology hall featuring the Naked Scientist, the clash of the strongmen in the Rand Show Strongest Man 2015 competition, the Animal Kingdom with various animal shows, local stage performers and motoring displays.

Price: R100 for adults, R50 for pensioners over 65, R50 for teens aged 13-16, R20 for kids aged 6 to 12 and free for children under the age of six.

5. Nissan Easter Festival

On until Monday, April 6, the Lipizzaner Centre hosts an equestrian extravaganza, with the Nissan SA Outdoor Grand Prix ending off the show. There are food and drink stalls, a village market, children’s entertainment, riding displays, car displays and test drives.
