Download Spotify’s special playlist for Youth Day

Add something to your playlist this Youth Month, by joining Spotify in celebrating our young up-and-coming and “already arrived” local artists with an exhilarating new Future Fresh Mzansi playlist, that will go live tomorrow, on Youth Day.

Around 35 years ago, Brenda Fassie together with pop group The Big Dudes released the single Weekend Special. The song was such a hit that Fassie ended up touring the US, Europe, Australia and Brazil. The song crossed borders, racial divides and language barriers.

Fast-forward to present day South Africa where artists are carrying on the legacy of being distinctly themselves. Over the past few years, South Africa has seen a rise in the number of young artists claiming spots on local, continental and international charts.

What has given them the upper hand is advancements in technology, shaping how music is shared and listened to by fans across the world. The likes of Babes Wodumo, Sho Madjozi, and Moonchild Sanelly are just a few of the artists who have further catapulted on to the local music scene with their distinct characters and sound.

The Gqom sound and dance styles from Durban artists and Sho Madjozi’s blend of languages and electronic dance sound have made the Tsonga culture accessible to the world.

Curated especially for Youth Day, the Future Fresh Mzansi playlist features a diverse selection of commercial singles and emerging hits from local artists across an array of genres, with a host of exciting tracks, many of which are destined to be enjoyed in the country and abroad.
