DJ Sbu fakes an on-air attack
WATCH: A clearly staged endeavour, one can only guess that this was an attempt to boost numbers on the show.
Popular and controversial Sibusiso Leope, known to most as DJ Sbu, has recently made headlines on social media for apparently being attacked on air at his breakfast show on Vuma FM.
Judging by the audio, listeners would believe that Leope was being seriously attacked by an angry listener live at the studio, but seeing the actual video of the incident, it is clear that the attack was staged. Leope posted several tweets about the incident, making it seem real.
“This man tried to attack me live on the #djsbubreakfast izolo. What an idiot. I don’t know if he was serious or not,” he jotted down. “This fool attacked me live on air,” he further wrote, indicating that the incident was not faked. “It was not a stunt,” he tweeted.
Leope’s posts left some of his fans worried and others amused. “The guy was sent to beat DJ Sbu up because he said something about some football team,” one follower tweeted. “… This is a stunt,” another wrote. The attacker claimed that DJ Sbu made some insulting remarks about his favourite soccer team, Moroko Swallows? live on air. “My boss paid me to hit you,” the man said, adding that DJ Sbu was “disrespectful.”
The popular radio and TV personality returned to radio on July 1, when he started hosting a morning show called DJ Sbu Breakfast that broadcasts on both Vuma FM in KwaZulu-Natal and Rise FM in Mpumalanga.
Whether he faked the attack to lure more listeners to his show or not remains a question for another day, but the video clearly depicts that the incident was purely staged, with the DJ screaming to make it sound as if he was being hit.
