Suger and Spice head into Little Big Cook off finals

The sweet-like-sugar mother, Lee-Anne Ibbetson and her spicy 12 year old daughter Hannah won the first round of Saturday’s episode, with their Bacon and Cheese Croquettes with Marago served with Rosa Tomato Salad, against The Palette Masters, made up of Mpume Gumbi and her nephew Nkazimulo Mavaso (8), who made Chakalaka Chicken with Mashed Potatoes and Cucumber Salad and Team Halaal, with Aamina Mohammed and her tutee Deeya Toffie (15), who made South African Dukkah-Spiced Rack of Lamb with Sweet Potato Rosti and Gravy.

In the second round of the episode, Team Sugar and Spice aced again, with their rendition of Venetian Cake with Passion Fruit and White Chocolate – winning them the second spot in the finale episode, which will air on SABC3 on 2 August.

Hannah’s love for the kitchen translated into a lovely team dynamic that won the hearts of the judges. “I love food and eating and often pretend I am a judge at home and give Mom scores out of ten,” says Hannah. “My grandfather is a baker too and always bakes something when I visit, sometimes he will make plain biscuits or cupcakes for us to decorate together.”

“I think that the finals are going to be very close indeed,” says Martin Kobald, celebrity chef and judge on the Clover Little Big Cook Off.

“Team Sugar and Spice are vibrant and work really well together, but they are going to be competing against The Brainstormers who are inventive and very passionate about winning the competition. I’m very excited to see what next week’s contestants have in store for us.”

Cooking Gurus, Team Vicious & Delicious and Team Flour Power will vie for the judges’ attention and their chance to win the grand prize.
