In March, Zahara spoke to Sunday World about her foray into acting which, as a former drama teacher at church, she said is actually “one of my biggest interests”.
However, following the film’s premiere in Johannesburg last week, the publication has branded this supposed big-screen debut a “hype” because she is “nothing but an extra” and “does not even say a word”.
‘Nothing For Mahala’ tells the story of up-and-coming property agent Axe Gumede (Thapelo Mokoena), whose “you have to spend money to make money” approach to success lands him in messy situations with both a loan shark and the law.
He eventually finds himself saddled with 200 hours of community service at an old-age home, where he is told to take care of a grumpy old man called Hendrik (Marius Weyers), whose life-long pursuit of money left him bitter, miserable, and alone. And it’s through this fateful placement that Axe learns some hard-hitting life lesson.
The movie opens in cinemas on 4 October, but will also be broadcast on SABC soon after.
